How It Works

01.

Step 1

Obtain a Private Pilot License (PPL)
This can be done through flight schools or training centers.
This license allows you to fly solo and carry passengers. To obtain this license, you will need to pass a written exam, as well as a practical exam.

The written exam covers topics such as aviation law, weather, and navigation. The practical exam would be 40 hours of flight time including solo flight and cross-country (>50nm)

02.

Step 2

Obtain a Commercial Pilot License (CPL)
This license allows you to fly for hire. To obtain this license, you will need to have a certain amount of flight experience, as well as pass a written and practical exam.
Commercial pilot licenses are issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and allow pilots to be paid for flying.
03.

Step 3

Obtain an Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL)
This is the highest level of pilot licensing and allows you to work for an airline.
Once you have your ATPL, you will need to pass a series of exams, both written and practical, in order to be certified by the FAA.
